Our Humble Beginnings

Bloom & Albion was born from a love of creativity, handmade quality and a desire to share the joys of making with as many people as we can.

In 2018 Andrew & Lisa created a letterpress print studio in North Wales called ffowndri, where they taught others about heritage crafts, produce art for sale and undertook commissions.

In 2021 Kirsti joined the pair to support the expansion, diversification and evolution to create Bloom & Albion. Kirsti has a rich family history of retailing interior products and is a highly respected ceramicist.

Our background has made us well grounded and determined to reach out to those who might not ordinarily take part; and provide as many opportunities for others as we can.

Our Ethos

Our organisation is founded on five moral principles that govern our behaviour:

+ Quality is at the heart of everything we do

+ We take pride in our exceptional customer service

+ We deliver consistently without preventing innovation and development

+ We never lose sight of our environmental and ethical responsibility or impact; and continue to strive to improve

+ We inspire, create and enable opportunity

Our Purpose

To reimagine and develop inspiring places and projects that enable people to come together to Learn, Create, Enjoy artistry and making.

Our Hope

We hope to continually be respected as a responsible and exciting business who provide an amazing, engaging and inclusive experience through the opportunities, premises and projects we create.

Our Promise

Our customers experience is the most important thing to us.

We want you to enjoy everything we have to offer, time and time again and feel confident with recommending us to others. So our promise is to provide you with an exceptional service and to continue to offer and expand on our well designed, quality craftsman pieces that through the sale of, supports other artists and makers.

Bridge Street, Not-for-Profit

Our venture at 12 Bridge Street, Chester is through a registered not-for-profit company. This means that any profits we make after paying our staff at least the real minimum wage and rewarding them with performance-based bonuses, is reinvested into the community through our community projects and activities.

Our Progress

All of the products we as Bloom & Albion make and package are plastic free but the same can’t be said about the products we get from our suppliers. We are communicating with the hope of inspiring change.

Any plastics you receive from us have either come from our suppliers and growers, for example plant pots; or if it’s packaging by us, it’s recycled and reused from deliveries we’ve received.

We believe that recycling is key to reaching a sustainable use of plastic so any plastic products we sell in our store are commonly recyclable and we strive for all plastics to have at least 70% recycled plastic contents. We can’t do this on our own but we hope our customers can see that we trying to play our part.

Our biggest operational carbon impact is the carbon created by our deliveries so regardless of whether or not our couriers are carbon neutral we offset our delivery carbon impact through a respected offsetting scheme which is currently contributing to the Jarí Para Forest Conservation Project in the Amazon Rainforest. You can read more about this project here.

Our Makers Space

Our current space in North Wales formely known as FormeHK / ffowndri has unfortunately been shut since the pandemic started as it was impossible to follow the Covid secure guidelines and retain the same level of experience our customers had.

We are seeking new space in Cheshire so have decided to keep the Makers Space in North Wales closed to the public until we have moved.

Our new space that we expect to open in 2021 will be large and feature even more equipment, enabling a wider variety of artists and makers to use it, including ceramicists.
